The Hon. Claudia J. Silbar is a judge for the Superior Court of Orange County in California. She was appointed by former governor Gray Davis on December 24, 2001, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of Judge John Ryan.
Silbar earned a B.A. from the University of Kentucky and a J.D. from the University of Louisville.
Silbar began her legal career in 1984. She worked as an attorney with the Office of the Commonwealth Attorney in Louisville, Kentucky, prosecuting criminal offenses until 1986. She spent the next year as a trial attorney with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission in Washington, D.C. In 1987 she joined the Office of the U.S. Attorney in Los Angeles, County, where she represented the government in civil litigation. Then, in 1989, she joined the Office of the District Attorney, eventually managing the Homicide, Sexual Assault, Family Protection, Gang, Felony Charging, and Felony Trial Units.
Silbar was a resident of Costa Mesa, California at the time of her appointment to the Superior Court of Orange County. She assisted in the creation of the California School Education Foundation.
