The Honorable Christine A. Sproat

The Hon. Christine A. Sproat (Ret.) was a justice of the Dutchess County Supreme Court in the Ninth Judicial District of New York. She was appointed to the Supreme Court by former Governor George Pataki in 2003. Sproat retired in 2017.

She received a B.S. from the State University of New York at New Paltz in 1978. Sproat went on to earn a J.D. from Pace University School of Law in 1983.

After law school, she joined the Law Office of Michel Haggert, Esq., where she practiced as an associate for three years. In 1986, Sproat became a principal court attorney to the Hon. Judith A. Hillery, remaining in that capacity until 1996.

Sproat then joined Gellert & Cutler, P.C. as an associate, where she practiced for five years. Then, in 2001, Sproat returned to her principal court attorney position with Judge Hillery and also served as a principal court attorney to the Hon. Bruce Tolbert.

Her memberships have included the Dutchess County Bar Association (president), the Mid-Hudson Women’s Bar Association (president), and the Women’s Bar Association of the State of New York.

Sproat also served as a trustee of the Dutchess Community College and as a board member of the Cunneen-Hackett Cultural Center, the YWCA of Dutchess County, the Grace Smith House, Inc., and the Community Day Care Centers, Inc.
