The Hon. Charles R. Gill (Ret.) served as a judge for the Superior Court of San Diego County in California. He was originally appointed to the San Diego Municipal Court by former Governor Pete Wilson in 1997. He was subsequently elevated to the Superior Court in 1998. He retired from the bench on February 28, 2019.
Gill earned a B.S. in biology and political science from San Diego State University in 1976. He then received a J.D. from the University of San Diego School of Law in 1980.
While attending law school, Gill began working for the San Diego County Planning Department. After graduation, he joined the Office of the San Diego County Counsel, where he spent most of his time representing public school districts. Then, in 1983, he was appointed Assistant City Attorney for the Office of the City Attorney of Chula Vista. During his three-year tenure there, he handled land development issues for two master-planned communities, Rancho Del Rey and Eastlake.
He then entered into private practice with Alex C. McDonald in 1986. Their firm focused on planning, land use, and environmental law.
Gill enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, and skiing.
