The Hon. Charles J. Umeda is a judge for the Superior Court of San Bernardino County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown on July 16, 2015, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Shahla S. Sabet.
Umeda earned a B.S. from the University of Redlands. He then completed a J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
He began his legal career as a deputy district attorney with the Office of the District Attorney of San Bernardino County in 1985.
Five years later, he left the Office of the District Attorney and joined Bruce R. Bailey & Associates. He briefly practiced there as an associate, quickly leaving to transition into a position as an attorney in private practice.
Then, in 1993, he returned to the Office of the District Attorney of San Bernardino County, where he resumed his duties as a deputy district attorney until his appointment to the bench.
Umeda was a resident of Loma Linda, California at the time of his appointment.
He is registered as a Republican.
