Biography

The Hon. Charles B. Burch is a judge on the Superior Court of Contra Costa County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in April 2005, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. John Allen.

Burch earned his bachelor's degree in political science from Stanford University in 1970. He then completed his J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School in 1973.

He began his legal career as a prosecutor in the State Attorney's Office of Cook County, Illinois in 1973. Then, in 1978, he moved to the Office of the United States Attorney. He served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the next 28 years, first in Chicago and then in San Francisco.

Outside the bench, Burch has coached basketball and baseball for the Lamorinda Youth Association. He has also actively participated in local moot court and mock trial programs.

Burch is a former member of the Planning Commission of Moraga in California.

He is registered as an Independent.
