The Hon. Carter P. Holly is a judge for the San Joaquin County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Pete Wilson in 1994. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. James P. Darrah (Ret.).
Judge Holly received his bachelor's degree from the University of California, Irvine in 1974. He earned his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law in 1977. He then graduated with his LL.M. in tax law from Boston University School of Law in 1979.
Prior to his appointment to the bench, Holly spent his entire legal career in private practice. He first practiced at the law firm of Neumiller and Beardslee from 1979 to 1981. He then joined Mayall, Hurley, Knutsen, Smith, and Green in 1981 and was named a partner there in 1989. He remained in that capacity until receiving the call to the bench.
He served as a judge pro tem for the Stockton Municipal Court.
Holly was also elected to serve a four-year term on the San Joaquin County Planning Commission.
His memberships included the North Stockton Rotary Club, the Child Abuse Prevention Council, and the San Joaquin County Bar Association.
While on the bench, Judge Holly has presided in the Civil Department.
