The Hon. Carolyn P. Bell is a judge for the Lafayette County Justice Court in Mississippi. She was elected to the bench in 2015 to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Frances Gordon.
Bell hears felony charges, misdemeanors, traffic tickets, and civil cases under $3,500. The judges are also authorized to perform marriage ceremonies.
Prior to her election, Bell worked as the clerk for the Lafayette County Justice Court since 1990, holding the distinction of being the longest-serving clerk in the county’s history.
She has held a membership with the Justice Court Clerk Association.
A native of Lafayette County, she was raised in College Hill and attended Lafayette High School. Bell is the second of eight children. She and her husband, Columbus Bell, a pastor at Philadelphia Missionary Baptist Church in Oakland, have seven children.
Bell is registered as a Democrat.
