The Hon. Carlton G. Davis is a judge for the Sacramento County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by Governor Gavin Newsom on April 28, 2020, filling a newly created position.
Davis earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and sociology from Tulane University. He then completed a J.D. at the University of California, Gould School of Law.
After graduating from law school, Davis began his legal career as a deputy district attorney for the Riverside County District Attorney’s Office. Three years later, he transferred to the Sacramento County District Attorney’s Office, where he prosecuted homicide, domestic violence, sexual violence, and gang cases as a deputy district attorney until 2017. At that time, he was selected to serve as a court commissioner for the Sacramento County Superior Court.
He has served as president of the Wiley W. Manuel Bar Association. He has also organized ‘Contract for Success’, a mentoring program for high school students started by the Associate Justice William J. Murray of the Third District Court of Appeal.
Davis was raised in Sacramento, where he attended John F. Kennedy High School.
He is registered as a Democrat.
