The Hon. Carlos R. Cortez served as a judge for the 44th District Court in Dallas County, Texas. Cortez was elected to the bench in 2006 and re-elected in 2010. He ran for re-election in 2014, but he was defeated in the March primary.
Over the course of his judicial career, Cortez served on the Presidential Inaugural Committee of the State of Texas. He also presided over one of the largest corporate buyout lawsuits in United States history.
Cortez earned a B.S. in criminal justice from the University of North Texas in 1990. Then, in 1995, he completed a J.D. at Texas Wesleyan University School of Law.
After graduating from law school, Cortez entered into private practice as a sole practitioner. He specialized in civil litigation and personal injury matters.
His memberships have included the Dallas Bar Association and the Dallas Trial Lawyers Association.
Cortez is fluent in English and Spanish.
