The Hon. C. Virginia Keeny is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2012.
She is a registered Democrat.
Judge Keeny received her B.A. from Harvard University in 1983. She went on to earn her J.D. from Stanford Law School in 1988.
Keeny began her legal career in 1988 as a clerk for the Hon. William A. Norris with the U.S. Court of Appeal for the Ninth Circuit where she served for one year.
She became a public interest fellow for Litt and Stormer from 1989 to 1991. She joined the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's District Office in Los Angeles in 1991 as a senior trial attorney. She left the EEOC in 1993 to partner with the law firm of Hadsell and Stormer, Inc. and would remain with the law firm, which would become Hadsell, Stormer, Keeny, Richardson, and Renick, LLP, until her appointment to the Superior Court in 2012. While at the firm her areas of practice included employment discrimination and civil rights cases.
She was honored by the ACLU of Southern California in 2006 when they awarded her their Pro Bono Advocacy Award. She has been a member of the California Employment Lawyers Association.
