The Hon. Bruce E. Brodie is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in 2017 by former Governor Jerry Brown.
He is a registered Democrat.
Judge Brodie received his J.D. from Southwestern Law School in 1979.
After graduating from law school in Los Angeles, Brodie, who hails from Yeadon, Pennsylvania, moved back to the state to help his mother after his father passed away. He would remain in Pennsylvania, where he worked at odd jobs, until returning to Los Angeles to pursue his legal career.
Brodie joined the Los Angeles County Public Defenders Office as a deputy public defender in 1991. After three years there, he became an alternate public defender for the Los Angeles County Alternate Public Defender's Office. During his 23 years with the APD's office, Brodie served in various roles including division chief, head deputy, and trial attorney. Then, in 2012, Brodie became chief deputy alternate public defender. He remained in that position until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2017.
During his free time, Judge Brodie has provided free tutoring for over 27 years to African-American law school graduates to help them prepare for the bar exam.
