The Hon. Bruce A. Young is a judge for the Ventura County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench in August 2007 by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. He filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Barry Klopfer (Ret.).
He is a registered Democrat.
Judge Young graduated with his B.A. in history from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He went on to earn his J.D. from Pepperdine University School of Law.
He worked as an associate for the law firm of Romney, Smith, and Drescher starting in 1978, and then at the Law Offices of Philip C. Drescher for three years beginning in 1980. Then, in 1983, Young partnered at the law firm of Drescher, McConica, and Young until 1986 when he entered into solo practice. Three years later, Young would become a partner at the firm Lagerlof, Senecal, Drescher, and Swift. He remained there until 1993 when he joined Drescher, McConica, Onstot, Schuck, and Young as a managing partner.
After twenty-one years in the private sector, Young joined the Ventura County District Attorney's Office in 1999 as a deputy district attorney where he was assigned to the D.A.'s Elder Abuse and Misdemeanor Units.
He then became a judicial officer in 2003 when he was selected to serve as a court commissioner for the Ventura County Superior Court, a position he would hold until his appointment to the bench in 2007.
During his time on the Superior Court, Judge Young served as a supervising judge of the criminal department, where he presided over the Criminal Master Trial Calendar.
Judge Young was named Judge of the Year in 2015 by the Ventura County Trial Lawyers Association. He also received the Oxnard Knights of Columbus Public Safety Award in 2013 in recognition of his contributions to the community.
He was born in Ohio but was raised in Ventura. As a history major, Young enjoys studying history in his free time, specifically on the subjects of the Revolutionary and Civil Wars.
