Judge Brian M. McNamara: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Brian M. McNamara is a judge for the Superior Court of Kern County in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown on December 29, 2012, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Robert J. Anspach.

McNamara earned a B.A. from the University of Stirling in Scotland. He has also received an M.S. in sports management from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst as well as a J.D. from Newport University School of Law.

He began his legal career in 1998. He worked as a sole practitioner in his own private practice, specializing in criminal law.

McNamara taught computer science at Solihull College of Technology and Bournville College of Further Education. He has also been a professor of business law and management information systems in the School of Business and Public Administration at California State University, Bakersfield.
