Biography

The Hon. Bret D. Hillman is a judge for the Tulare County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2010.


He is a registered Republican.


Judge Hillman received his B.A. from Stanford University. He went on to earn his J.D. from Santa Clara University School of Law.


Prior to his appointment to the Superior Court, Hillman spent his entire legal career in private practice. He was an associate at Stringham and Rogers from 1986 to 1990. He then partnered at Stringham, Hillman, and Lew until 2007 when he was a partner at Hillman and Lew. He would remain there until receiving the call to the bench.


While on the bench, Judge Hillman has served as an Assistant Presiding Judge of the Court.


Judge Hillman's family history is well-established in Tulare. His great grandfather founded a grain business there in 1886 and it is still run by the family.
