Judge Brendan J. Kane - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

Hon. Brendan J. Kane is a judge for the 23rd Judicial District Circuit Court of Oregon in Linn County. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Kate Brown in 2020, filling the vacancy created by the Hon. DeAnn Novotny (Ret.).

Prior to his appointment, Kane managed his own private practice, the Law Office of Brendan J. Kane, Inc., in Albany since 2012. At his firm, he specialized in juvenile matters. Before that, he worked as a deputy district attorney with the Linn County District Attorney’s Office (2007 to 2012), a sole practitioner in Newport (2002 to 2007), and a deputy district attorney in Lincoln County (2001 to 2002).

Kane received a bachelor’s degree in history from the University of California, Berkeley. He went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Oregon School of Law. He was admitted to practice in Oregon in 2000.

Before pursuing his education, Kane served in the United States Army Infantry (1988 to 1991). During his time in the military, he served in Panama as a member of the rapid deployment force that captured Manuel Noriega in 1990 and was also stationed at the DMZ in South Korea.

Kane is a native of Massachusetts. He and his wife, Cara, have two children. In his free time, Kane enjoys reading, hiking, basketball, and volleyball.
