The Hon. Audrey E. Stone is an interim judge for the Criminal Court of the City of New York in Bronx County. She was appointed to the bench by Mayor Bill de Blasio in 2019.
Stone earned a B.A. in history and Latin American studies from Brown University in 1986. Then, in 1991, she completed a J.D. from the New York University School of Law.
After graduating from law school, Stone joined the Criminal Defense Division of the Legal Aid Society, where she worked as an attorney from 1992 to 1996. She then left the firm and became the director of Pace Women’s Justice Center. She worked in that capacity for six years, eventually returning to private practice as an associate at Briccetti, Calhoun & Lawrence.
In 2006, Stone became Second Deputy Attorney of the Westchester County District Attorney’s Office. During her nine-year tenure there, she rose through the ranks, eventually becoming Chief of the Special Prosecutions Division. In that capacity, she supervised the prosecution of domestic violence, child abuse, elder abuse, and human trafficking cases.
Stone returned to the private sector in 2015, briefly working as the Managing Director of the Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault Practice at Nardello & Co. Then, just prior to her appointment to the bench, she served as Chief Counsel of the Family Violence Cases for the Office of Policy and Planning for the New York State Office of Court Administration from 2016 to 2019.
Her memberships have included the New York State Domestic Violence Fatality Review Team and the Board of the Westchester Women’s Bar Association. She has also been co-chair of the Westchester County Anti-Trafficking Task Force and co-chair of the Subcommittee on Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence for the New York State District Attorney’s Association.
