The Honorable Anthony T. Kane


The Hon. Anthony T. Kane (Ret.) was an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the State of New York, Appellate Division, Third Judicial Department. He was appointed to the Appellate Division in 2002. Kane retired in 2009.

Over the course of his judicial career, he served as a judge for the Sullivan County Family Court (1985 to 1991), a judge for the Sullivan County Surrogate’s Court (1992 to 1995), and a justice of the Sullivan County Supreme Court (1995 to 2002).

Kane received a bachelor’s degree in economics from Iona College in 1966. He went on to complete a J.D. at Cornell Law School in 1969.

After law school, Kane entered into private practice, where he would remain until assuming the Family Court bench. In addition to his private practice, he served as a town attorney for the Town of Forestburgh from 1976 to 1984.

A native New Yorker himself, Kane’s mother immigrated to the United States from Budapest, Hungary, and his father is of Irish descent.

He and his wife, Nancy, were the recipients of the David T. Cocks Award for Commitment to Community from the Community Foundation of Orange and Sullivan in 2017.
