The Hon. Anthony A. Trendacosta is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2014. He succeeded Janice C. Croft upon her retirement from the bench.
He is a registered Democrat.
Judge Trendacosta received his B.A. from California State University, Northridge. He went on to earn his J.D. from the University of La Verne College of Law in 1975.
After graduating from law school, Trendacosta joined the law firm of Rose, Klein, and Marias in 1975 as an associate. In 1982 he was named a partner for the firm and continued to practice in that capacity until 1986. He became a supervising attorney in 1987 for the Los Angeles Office of County Counsel and practiced there for two years until leaving in 1989 to join the Law Office of Barry Rothman as an associate. In that same year, Trendacosta was selected to serve as general counsel for the Santa Monica Rent Control Board. After a lengthy tenure on the rent control board, he left to join the Law Office of Donald Gindy in 2000. He became a part-time court referee in 1998 and was made a full-time court referee for the Juvenile Court in 1999. Then in 2005 Trendacosta was elected to serve as a court commissioner for the Juvenile Court. He remained in that capacity until his appointment to the Superior Court in 2014.
Judge Trendacosta has served as a volunteer mock trial judge for the Constitutional Rights Foundation, the USC Law Center, and the UCLA Mock Trial competitions.
He also served as an instructor for the Center for Judicial Education and Research.
His memberships have included the Teen Pregnancy Prevention Committee, the Juvenile Court Judges of California, the Judicial Education Juvenile Law Curriculum Committee, and the Los Angeles Superior Court Temporary Judge Committee.
