The Hon. Andrea C. Thompson is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was elected to the bench in 2012, after her previous, unsuccessful attempts to seek an appointment from former Governors Arnold Schwarzenegger and Jerry Brown.
Judge Thompson graduated with her B.A. in criminal justice, Spanish, and French from the University of South Dakota where she was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. She went on to earn her J.D. from McGeorge School of Law in 1984.
After graduating from law school, Thompson joined the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office as a deputy district attorney. During her time at the D.A.'s office, she served on the Victim Impact Program as well as the Sexually Violent Predator Unit. She helped prosecute murder, child abuse, sexual assault, and serial rape cases during her lengthy tenure there. Prior to being elected to the Superior Court, Thompson was serving as Deputy-in-Charge for the D.A.'s office at the UCLA Medical Center's Stuart House, which is a program of the Rape Treatment Center. The multi-disciplinary facility was set up to allow children, who were victims of molestation or sexual assault, to avoid the lengthy process of going through the different agencies individually.
Judge Thompson has served as an instructor at the Forensic Science Academy.
She speaks fluent Spanish.
Her husband is a Sergeant with the Los Angeles Police Department.
