The Hon. Alyson L. Lewis is a judge for the Sacramento County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Jerry Brown in 2012.
She is a registered Democrat.
Judge Lewis graduated with honors with her B.S. in communications from Cornell University. She went on to earn her J.D. from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law.
For the first nine years of her legal career, Lewis worked in private practice. During that time, she practiced as an associate at the law firms of Phillips and Spallas LLP for one year beginning in 1999, at Oppenheimer, Wolff, and Donnelly LLP from 2000 to 2003, and at Bartko, Zankel, Tarrant, and Miller from 2003 to 2008. Her areas of practice included copyright, trademark, trade secrets, defamation, bad faith, breach of contract and elder abuse claims.
In 2008, Lewis was elected to serve as an assemblywoman for the California State Assembly for the 10th Assembly District. She would serve in that capacity for four years, where she would focus on government accountability, oversight, and regulatory reform.
Just prior to her appointment to the bench, Lewis was serving as of counsel at the law firm of Greenburg Traurig LLP.
Her memberships have included the California State Bar Association, the Junior League of Sacramento, and the State Public Affairs Committee.
She was named the Legislator of the Year in 2010 by the California Small Business Association, and the 2009 Outstanding Legislator by the California State Sheriff's Association.
During her time on the bench, Judge Lewis has presided over the Juvenile Justice Division.
