Hon. Alison Bachus is a judge for the Maricopa County Superior Court in Arizona. She was appointed to the bench by Governor Doug Ducey in 2015.
During her judicial tenure, Bachus has held assignments in the Civil, Family, and Juvenile Courts.
Prior to joining the bench, she was senior counsel for the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Phoenix, having held that position since 2013.
Before that, Bachus spent seven years as an Assistant United States Attorney with the United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Arizona (2006 to 2013). She also counseled veterans at the United States Department of Veterans Affairs.
Bachus received a B.A. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1999. She went on to complete a J.D. at the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law in 2005.
After graduating from law school, Bachus began her legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Stephen M. McNamee, Chief Judge of the United States District Court for the District of Arizona (2005 to 2006).
She served as a lawyer representative to the Ninth Circuit Judicial Conference and was the former vice-president of the Federal Bar Association’s Ninth Circuit.
Bachus has also held a membership with the Arizona Women Lawyers Association and sat on the Arizona State Bar’s Committee on Minorities and Women in the Law and was a faculty member of its Leadership Institute, working on bench/bar relations between the federal and state bars.
In addition, she served on the board of the Law College Association of the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law, and has been a volunteer with the Girl Scouts in Arizona.
Bachus received the Cooperative Law Enforcement Award and the Victims’ Rights Award while serving as a federal prosecutor.
