The Hon. Alfred W. Mackey (Ret.) served as a judge for the General Division of the Ashtabula County Court of Common Pleas in Ohio. Mackey initially joined the bench in 1989. He retired on February 8, 2015.
Mackey was instrumental in the creation of the Ashtabula County Drug Court, a specialized docket that began on November 3, 2008.
After retiring from the bench, Mackey sought election to the United States House of Representatives, running as the Democratic candidate for the 14th Congressional District of Ohio. He was defeated in the Democratic primary by Michael Wager.
Mackey earned a bachelor’s degree from Hiram College in 1963. He then completed a J.D. at Case Western Reserve University School of Law in 1967.
His memberships have included the Ashtabula County Bar Association. He also served in the United States Marine Corps, performing a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1968 to 1971.
He is registered as a Democrat.
