Biography

The Hon. A. James Robertson, II is a judge for the Superior Court of San Francisco County in California. He was appointed by former Governor Pete Wilson in 1995.


Robertson earned an A.M. in economics from Stanford University in 1960. After graduating from Stanford, Robertson served on active duty with the United States Navy for three years. He then continued his studies, receiving an LL.B. from Harvard University in 1965.


Robertson began his legal career as a law clerk for the Hon. Charles M. Merrill of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth District. Then, in 1966, Robertson joined Howard, Rice, Nemerovski, Canady, Robertson, Falk and Rabkin as an attorney. He specialized in complex civil litigation, representing both plaintiffs and defendants in national class action cases. He worked in this capacity until his appointment to the bench.


Robertson has been a member of Phi Beta Kappa, the American Law Institute, the McFetridge American Inn of Court, and the Center for Dispute Resolution. He has also served as chairman of the Saint Francis Hospital Foundation board.


He is registered as a Democrat.


Robertson was born in San Diego, California.
