The Hon. W. Haigh Porter is a master-in-equity for the Florence County Equity Court in South Carolina.
Prior to joining the bench, Porter worked in private practice since 1965. He also served as a special referee since 2004. His areas of practice focused on real estate, corporate, and family court matters.
Porter received a B.S. in biology from the University of the South. He then served in the United States Army Reserve and worked in the hospitality industry before completing a J.D. at the University of South Carolina School of Law (1965) and a Ph.D. in humanities from Francis Marion University (2011).
Porter was a member of the Florence City Council and a former mayor of Florence (1991 to 1995). In addition, he has served as chairman of the Drs. Bruce and Lee Foundation and is a trustee of the University of South Carolina Educational Foundation.
Porter received the Ralph King Anderson, Jr. Award in 2006 in honor of his community service.
He was born in Florence, South Carolina. He and his wife, Kathryn, have two daughters. Porter attends St. John's Episcopal Church.
