The Hon. Sarah I. Malik is a Family Division Magistrate for the Montgomery County Circuit Court in Maryland. She was appointed to the bench in 2022.
Prior to her appointment, Malik was a special magistrate for the Montgomery County Circuit Court, a position to which she was named in 2019. Before that, she was the owner of Malik Law, where she represented family law clients in divorce, custody, child support, marital property, domestic violence, and post-judgment modifications matters.
Malik earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and decision information sciences from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2004. She then completed a J.D. at The George Washington University Law School in 2007. As a law student, Malik interned with the Hon. Jose M. Lopez of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia (2005), and she served as a student attorney in the Family & Civil Litigation Clinic (2006 to 2007).
After graduating from law school, Malik entered into private practice, working as an associate in the International Trade Group at Barnes & Thornburg. She worked in that capacity until 2009, at which time she joined the Law Office of John S. Weaver (2009 to 2013).
Her memberships have included the Montgomery County Bar Association, the Maryland State Bar Association, the Montgomery County American Inn of Court, and the District of Columbia Bar Association. She also provided client counseling, appellate advocacy, and trial advocacy work as a pro bono attorney with the D.C. Volunteer Lawyers Project.
Malik is fluent in Urdu and Hindi.
