Judge Milena A. Abreu - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Milena A. Abreu is a judge for the Miami-Dade County Court in Florida. She was elected to the bench on August 28, 2018.

Prior to her election, Abreu worked for the Death Penalty Unit at the Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel for the Third Region of Florida. She is one of seven women certified to try death penalty cases in Miami-Dade County. Abreu also spent seven years as a traffic hearing officer for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida.

Abreu earned a J.D. from Loyola University New Orleans School of Law in 1998.

After graduating from law school, Abreu began her legal career with the Miami-Dade County Public Defender’s Office. During her tenure there, she rose through the ranks, quickly becoming a senior attorney. She then entered into private practice.

When not presiding over legal proceedings, Abreu enjoys spending time with her daughter, scuba diving, studying flamenco dance, and motorcycling through the back roads of Florida.
