Hon. Marla E. Parker is a judge for the Forty-Seventh District Court of Michigan in Oakland County. She was elected to the bench in November 1992. Parker holds the distinction of being the longest-serving judge in the history of the Forty-Seventh District Court.
During her judicial tenure, she has served several terms as Chief Judge of the court. Parker is also credited with implementing the Sobriety Court in 2005.
Prior to her election, she was a magistrate for the court and also managed her own private practice in Farmington Hills.
She received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan. Parker went on to complete a J.D. at Wayne State University Law School. She was admitted to practice in Michigan in 1980.
Her memberships have included the Oakland County Bar Association, the Women’s Bar Association, the National Association of Women Judges, the Oakland County District Judges Association (past president), and the American Bar Association.
Parker has served on the faculty of the Michigan Judicial Institute’s new judge’s seminar.
From a civic standpoint, she has been involved with the Farmington Hills/Farmington Community Foundation for Youth and Families Board and was a member of the Exchange Club and the Call-to-Action Coalition. In addition, Parker was a member of the Farmington Hills and Farmington Commission on Children, Youth, and Families (Volunteer Committee chair) and the High Risk Response Team (HRRT or Heart Team) of Farmington Hills/Farmington.
Parker received the Drug Court Hero Award from the Michigan Association of Treatment Court Professionals (2014) and the Domestic Violence Prevention Award (2020).
