The Hon. Mark R. Gerhardt is a circuit judge for the 22nd Judicial Circuit Court of Illinois. He was appointed to the bench by the Illinois Supreme Court in 2019, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Sharon Prather.
Prior to his appointment, Gerhardt was an associate judge for the 22nd Judicial Circuit, a position to which he was named in 2011. Before that, he spent time as an associate at Gummerson & Rausch and Wiejaczka Law.
Gerhardt earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 1990. He then completed a J.D. at the University of Illinois Chicago School of Law in 1995.
After graduating from law school, Gerhardt began his legal career as an assistant state’s attorney, spending nine years with the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and the McHenry County State’s Attorney’s Office.
His memberships have included the McHenry County Bar Association, the Lake County Bar Association, and the Illinois State Bar Association. He has also taught Criminology at Trinity International University.
He was a resident of Algonquin, Illinois, at the time of his appointment.
