The Hon. Louis B. Meyer, III is a judge for the Wake County District Court in the 10th Judicial District of North Carolina. He was appointed to the bench by former Governor Bev Perdue in 2012, filling a vacancy created by the resignation of the Hon. Kristin Ruth.
Prior to his appointment, Meyer was an attorney at Poyner Spruill, a law firm he joined in 1985. He specialized in civil litigation in state and federal courts, supplementing his practice by representing criminal defendants.
Meyer earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Wake Forest University in 1980. He then completed a J.D. at Wake Forest University School of Law in 1983.
After graduating from law school, Meyer began his legal career as a judicial law clerk to the Hon. Alexander Denson of the United States District Court for the Eastern District of North Carolina.
His memberships have included the Wake County Bar Association and the North Carolina Bar Association. He has also been involved with the First Baptist Church of Raleigh.
Born in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Meyer was raised in Wilson, North Carolina, where he graduated from the Wilson County School District. His father, the Hon. Louis B. Meyer, served as an associate justice for the North Carolina Supreme Court. Meyer and his wife, Staci, have one daughter. Staci has served as a deputy secretary of the North Carolina Department of Natural Resources and Cultural Resources as well as a commissioner for the North Carolina Industrial Relations Commission. When not presiding over legal proceedings, he enjoys spending time with his family, fishing, and listening to all kinds of music.
He is registered as a Democrat.
