The Hon. Lisa M. Bowen-Slaven is a judge for the LaGrange County Superior Court in Indiana. She was elected to the bench on November 4, 2014.
Bowen-Slaven played an instrumental role in the creation of the LaGrange County Drug Court.
Prior to her election, Bowen-Slaven was a sole practitioner in her own private practice, a law firm she opened in 2006. Before that, she spent time as an attorney at Beers, Mallers, Backs & Salin, specializing in family law in LaGrange and Fort Wayne (1997 to 2006).
Bowen-Slaven earned a bachelor’s degree in technical graphics and supervision technology from Purdue University in 1989. She then completed a J.D. at Valparaiso University School of Law in 1993.
After graduating from law school, Bowen-Slaven entered into private practice at the Law Office of Marcel Katz. During her tenure there, she supplemented her practice with service as a public defender for Tippecanoe County.
Born in Seattle, Washington, Bowen-Slaven was raised in Miami, Florida, where her father worked as an aeronautical engineer for Boeing and Eastern Airlines. The family relocated to Shipshewana, Indiana, in the 1970s, where she attended Westview High School. Bowen-Slaven and her husband, Steve, have two children. Steve has worked as a manager for a retail propane distributor for twenty-two years.
She is registered as a Republican.
