The Hon. LaGuina Clay-Herron (Ret.) was an Associate Judge for the Illinois Circuit Court of Cook County. She retired September 30, 2022. Clay-Herron began her judicial career as a trial judge for the Illinois Court of Claims as well as an arbitrator for the Cook County Circuit Court. Then, in 2007, she was appointed to the Cook County Circuit Court by the Illinois Supreme Court. She was assigned to the County Division (Calendar 9).
Clay-Herron worked as a teacher in the Chicago Public Schools for seventeen years. During this time, she completed her J.D. at the University of Illinois at Chicago, John Marshall Law School.
After her admission to the Illinois Bar in 1992, Clay-Herron continued to teach as she established her own private practice. While working as a sole practitioner, she specialized in real estate, personal injury, and probate matters. She also served as a pro bono attorney to the Rainbow PUSH Legal Clinic, the Center for Disability and Elder Law, and First Defense Legal Aid.
Clay-Herron was born and raised in Chicago and was a resident of the First Subcircuit at the time of her appointment. She has received endorsements from the Chicago Federation of Labor (AFL-CIO), the Chicago Fire Fighters Union, and the Independent Voters of Illinois-Independent Precinct Organization.
She is a registered Democrat.
