Judge Kristy M. Nuñez: Professional Background and Legal Expertise

The Hon. Kristy M. Nuñez is a judge for the Miami-Dade County Court in Florida. She was elected to the bench on August 28, 2018.

Nuñez earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Miami. She then completed a J.D. at St. Thomas University College of Law. As a law student, Nuñez clerked for the Hon. Ted E. Bandstra of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

After graduating from law school, Nuñez began her legal career as an assistant state attorney with the Office of the State Attorney for the Eleventh Judicial Circuit. During her thirteen-year tenure there, she held assignments in the Career Criminal and Robbery Unit as well as the Sexual Battery and Child Abuse Unit. She also sat as the Chief of the Felony Division as well as the Director of the Human Trafficking Unit (2016).

Her memberships have included the Board of the Miami-Dade League of Prosecutors and the Melissa Institute. She also co-founded Urban Promise Miami, an organization dedicated to serving at-risk youth and their families in under-resourced communities within Miami-Dade County.

Born and raised in Miami, Florida, Nuñez is the daughter of Cuban immigrants. She attended the Carrollton School of the Sacred Heart.
