The Hon. Jason C. Cohorst is a magistrate for the 12th Judicial District Court of Kansas. He was appointed to the bench by the 12th Judicial District Nominating Commission on January 27, 2021, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Paul Monty.
The 12th Judicial District encompasses Cloud, Jewell, Lincoln, Mitchell, Republic, and Washington Counties. Cohorst has held assignments in Washington County.
Prior to his appointment, Cohorst was a probation officer in Beatrice, Nebraska. Before that, he spent seven years as an administrator for the Beatrice State Developmental Center. He has also served as an intensive supervision officer for Riley County Community Corrections.
Cohorst earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Kansas State University.
Raised in Marysville, Kansas, Cohorst attended Marysville High School. He was a resident of Hanover, Kansas, at the time of his appointment. A father of five children, Cohorst coaches youth sports when not presiding over legal proceedings.
