The Hon. James R. Carroll is an Associate Judge for Illinois Circuit Court of Cook County. He was appointed to the bench by the Illinois Supreme Court in 2014. Judge Carroll is currently assigned to the County Division (Calendar 6).
Carroll earned a Bachelor’s degree from North Park University in 1970 and completed his J.D. at the University of Illinois at Chicago, John Marshall Law School, in 1978.
After graduating from law school, Carroll served as an Assistant Attorney General for the Office of the Illinois Attorney General and an Assistant State’s Attorney for the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. He went into private practice at litigation boutique Quinlan & Carroll. When the firm shut down, he moved to Much Shelist, PC.. He worked as a principal in the litigation and dispute resolution divisions until his appointment to the bench.
His memberships have included the Illinois Board of Admissions to the Bar and the Illinois Supreme Court Character and Fitness Committee. He has also been an active participant of Chicago Volunteer Legal Services.
