The Hon. Gerianne Abriano is a judge for the New York County Criminal Court in New York. She was appointed to the bench by Mayor Bill de Blasio in 2016.
Judge Abriano received her B.A. in sociology from Hunter College. After graduating from college, Abriano worked for twelve years as a social worker. She went on to earn her J.D. from New York Law School in 1993.
Prior to her appointment to the bench, Abriano had worked with the Kings County District Attorney’s Office since 1994. During her tenure there, she held several positions including deputy bureau chief of the Brooklyn Treatment Court, and beginning in 2001, served as the bureau chief at the Red Hook Community Justice Center in Brooklyn.
While on the bench, Judge Abriano has presided over a newly designated Staten Island Heroin Overdose Prevention and Education (HOPE) 2.0/Overdose Avoidance and Recovery (OAR) Court. The Court, which operates once a week, seeks to help at-risk individuals charged with misdemeanors.
