The Hon. Erin M. Childs is a commissioner for the San Luis Obispo County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench in 2017, filling a vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Patrick Perry.
Prior to her appointment, Childs sat as an AB 1058 commissioner for the Fresno County Superior Court, a position to which she was elected in 2016.
Childs earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She then completed a J.D. at San Joaquin College of Law in 2002. Childs is certified as a Family Law Specialist by the California State Bar Board of Legal Specialization.
After graduating from law school, Childs entered into private practice as a sole practitioner. She specialized in family law matters, advocating a collaborative law approach during divorce proceedings. During this time, Childs also sat as a judge pro tem and a court-appointed counsel for minors.
Her memberships have included the Fresno County Bar Association, the California Women Lawyers Association, and the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. She has sat on the Family Law Committee of the California Judges Association and the Family Law Curriculum Committee for the Center for Judicial Education & Research.
Childs speaks Spanish fluently.
