The Hon. Elena Baron is a judge for the Civil Court of the City of New York, New York County in the First Judicial District. She was designated to the Civil Court in New York County by the Hon. Lawrence K. Marks, Chief Administrative Judge of the State of New York in 2019. Previously, Judge Baron had been designated to the Kings County Criminal Court in the Second Judicial District by Judge Marks in 2018. She also sat on the Kings County Civil Court after being elected to the judicial position in 2017.
She is a registered Democrat.
Judge Baron graduated with her B.A. in political science, government, and computer science in 2001. She went on to earn her J.D. from Brooklyn Law School in 2006.
Prior to her election to the Civil Court, Baron had worked as a principal law clerk for the New York State Unified Court System since 2015. Before becoming a principal law clerk, she served as a court attorney for the Civil Court in Kings County. In those roles, Baron handled a variety of matters involving guardianship proceedings, fiduciary appointments, receiverships, credit card debt, small claims, personal injury matters, small business corporate matters, labor law, landlord/tenant disputes, and foreclosures.
She has served on the Board of Directors for Congregation B’nai Jacob of Park Slope.
Judge Baron immigrated to the United States from the former Soviet Union.
