The Hon. David M. Bragg (Ret.) is a former judge for the 16th Judicial District Circuit Court of Tennessee. He was elected to the bench in 2008. Bragg retired on January 1, 2021.
The 16th Judicial District includes Cannon and Rutherford Counties. During his judicial tenure, Bragg presided over the Rutherford County Drug Court since 2014. He also taught as an adjunct professor at Middle Tennessee University and the Nashville School of Law.
Prior to his election, he worked in private practice for fourteen years.
Bragg received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Tennessee and a master’s degree from Middle Tennessee State University. He then completed a J.D. at the Nashville School of Law in 1994.
His memberships include the Tennessee Judicial Conference Executive Committee, the American Bar Association Judicial Division, and the Rutherford and Cannon Bar Association. Bragg is also a past president of the Andrew Jackson Chapter of the American Inns of Court.
From a civic standpoint, he has been involved with the Board of Directors of the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce, the Board of Directors for the Volunteer Behavioral Health Corporation, and The Rutherford County Guidance Center.
Bragg is a native of Murfreesboro, Tennessee. His father, John Bragg, served as a longtime member of the Tennessee House of Representatives. Prior to his legal career, he served as the director of university housing at Middle Tennessee State University before becoming publisher of the Cannon Courier, a local newspaper in Woodbury that his brother, Tommy, had purchased. His brother eventually moved on to serve multiple terms as mayor of Murfreesboro, and Bragg decided to attend law school.
Following his retirement, he looked forward to spending more time with his wife, Nancy. Bragg attends First Baptist Church, where he has served as deacon, teacher, and church moderator.
