The Hon. Akemi D. Arakaki is a judge for the Los Angeles County Superior Court in California. She was appointed to the bench by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2010.
She is a registered Democrat.
Judge Arakaki received her B.A. from Wellesley College in 1995. She went on to earn her J.D. from Loyola Law School in 1998. While she attended law school, Arakaki was a student in the Hobbs District Attorney Clinic at Loyola, where she gained courtroom experience as a clerk for the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office.
After graduating from law school, Arakaki became an attorney for the Law Offices of Steve Escovar.
Then in 1999, she joined the Los Angeles County Public Defender's Office as a deputy public defender. She remained with the P.D.'s office until her appointment to the Superior Court in 2010.
During her time on the bench, Judge Arakaki presided over the Lancaster Juvenile Court.
She has served as past-president of the Japanese American Bar Association and has been a member of the Little Tokyo Service Center.
Judge Arakaki enjoys playing basketball in her free time.
