Judge Nicholas W. Moyne - Professional Background & Legal Expertise

Biography

The Hon. Nicholas W. Moyne is a judge for the Criminal Court of the City of New York in New York County. Moyne was initially elected to the Civil Court of the City of New York in New York County in 2019. Shortly after, he was designated to the Criminal Court by Chief Administrative Judge Lawrence K. Marks.

Moyne earned a B.A. in government and English from Oberlin College in 1993. Then, in 1998, he completed a J.D. at Brooklyn Law School.

After graduating from law school, Moyne began his legal career as an attorney at Rubert & Gross in 1999. The following year, he left the firm and joined the New York State Unified Court System, where he served as a principal court attorney for the Hon. Marylin G. Diamond of the New York County Supreme Court.

In 2011 he returned to private practice, briefly working as an associate at Faruqi & Faruqi. During his brief time there, he specialized in class action litigation, including securities, mergers and acquisitions and consumer fraud.

Moyne left the firm in 2012. He returned to the New York State Unified Court System, this time as a law secretary for the Hon. Paul Wooten of the New York County Supreme Court. He performed another short stint in private practice as a staff attorney at Simpson, Thacher & Bartlett in 2013. The following year, he returned, once again, to the New York State Unified Court System. He served as a principal court attorney to the Hon. J. J. Kelly of the Civil Court of the City of New York in New York County until his election.
