Biography

Hon. James F. Bargnesi is a judge for the Erie County Court in the Eighth Judicial District of New York. He was elected to the bench in 2015. Bargnesi filled the vacancy created by the retirement of the Hon. Michael L. D’Amico (Ret.).

He received a B.A. from Canisius College in 1992. Bargnesi went on to complete a J.D. at the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Law in 1996.

Prior to his election to the County Court, Bargnesi was chief prosecutor of the Erie County District Attorney’s Homicide Bureau, a position he held for seven years. He first joined the District Attorney’s Office as an assistant district attorney in 1998. During his tenure there, he was the prosecutor in the case of Dr. James G. Corasanti, who was charged with the hit-and-run death of 18-year-old skateboarder, Alix Rice, in July 2011. Bargnesi was unsuccessful in obtaining a conviction against the Amherst physician.

At the time of his election, Bargnesi ran unopposed for the seat on the Erie County Court.
